I was at work when I received the invite. A trip to New Orleans has been long overdue. I had been previously but almost always on a work trip. This time it would be different. This time I was going on a real trip, with no work in sight…yay.
Upon my arrival, we opted for a Lyft to the hotel and our driver had the best suggestions on what to do, where to eat and things to see.
We unknowingly booked the perfect hotel, walking distance to the French Quarter and Burbon Street. Conveniently enough, a street car line traveled right in front of our hotel, as well. The first night in town, we went to a late dinner at Daisy Dukes. Rumor has it that the character Princess Tiana from Disney’s Princess and the Frog is based off of the original owner of Daisy Dukes.
The first day full day, we woke up to pouring rain. Initially this had us on edge because everything we had planed for the majority of that day would have put us outside. Thankfully, the rain subdued by the time we headed out the doors and we went on to walk the streets downtown and take on a ghost tour of New Orleans. On the tour, we visited cemeteries, learned a lot about the ways and geography of the place and met some very interesting individuals.
I really thought we would be out at all hours of the day and night but the sun and humidity beat us down on most of the days and we ended in our room, every night with the TV on… I know…I’m not proud lol.
I had such a great time in New Orleans! I can’t wait to come back and I’m also eager to book another trip, before the end of the calendar year.
Where should I go next? DC, Maybe?
Where: Walk, Run or Bike at White Oak Creek and Black Creek Greenways.
Well technically, you can do these activities whenever but it’s going to be so nice this weekend and a newly-completed section of the greenway has been open since March of this year and so if you are all about the outdoors or if you’ve made the resolution to be outside more this year, this is perfect for you.
Where: NC Sugar Rush.
On May 26 from 1PM to 5 PM, Memorial Day weekend gets sweet with the NC Sugar Rush food truck rodeo. Imagine at least 20 different food truck at Raleigh’s City Market filled with nothing but deserts. Face painters, ballon artists and more are also expected to be in attendance. If you have allergies or dietary restrictions, do not fret, they thought of you too.
Where: Left Handed Liberty.
All the way through June 23, 2019 you’ll be able to see this exhibition of self taught artists at Gregg Museum of Art and Design. So if you are trying to stay out of the heat and have a chill day this is the perfect activity after brunch or lunch.
Where: Brewery Tap & Table.
I have two words for you: Tacos and Beer…need more convincing? There is also a rooftop patio… I knew that would get you! Located in the heart of Downtown Raleigh, Tap & Table is one part craft beer bar, one part southern-inspired kitchen.
I choose you, even when others deny you. I choose to honor and care for you, as you have and will always be my first refuge. Because I love you, it will show in everything I do, in every friend I make and every relation I pursue. Because I Love you, we will take the time to discover our own power and Happiness.
Always and Forever, Fannie
